Active Heave Compensator (Proteus)
The Proteus is an "Active Heave Compensator", or AHC, designed to reduce or eliminate the effects of vessel heave during overboarding operations. This means that a package can be held at a specific location in the water without the vessel's motion on the waves compromising the position.
Deep Down Marine Technologies was approached to implement an algorithm to perform Active Heave Compensation. The customer identified the operational tolerance of the system to be 6" of movement of the package with vessel heave of approximately 20 feet. The system that was implemented is accurate to .6" of package movement with vessel heave up to 30 feet. Deep Down Marine Technologies always delivers products to the best of our ability, often exceeding customer requirements and expectations.
Deep Down Marine Technologies implemented an Allen Bradley PLC system to take data from a Motion Reference Unit (MRU) and drive hydraulic actuators to compensate for the movement of the vessel. This product has been successfully tested and delivered.
We used an Allen-Bradley PLC and a Motion Reference Unit sensor to derive vessel heave data and translate that data into valve control signals to drive the hydraulic actuators on the active heave system.
This piece of equipment sits in-line with a winch coupled with Deep Down's In-Line Active Heave Compensator, we can provide a heave compensation solution for any over-boarding operation.
