Compliant Splice

Deep Down, Inc. has formed a unique concept of turning spare umbilicals into actual production umbilicals by splicing spares together to produce the required length. The Compliant Splice is a recently patented termination system designed to eliminate the burden of dealing with umbilical splices during installation. This design is capable of housing both electrical and fiber optic FITAs, while still allowing for the splice to be spooled onto a reel or carousel. The optional mud mat is used to assist in carrying the splice over the chute and functions to keep the splice out of the mud for easy inspection. Utilizing existing spare umbilicals, operators save significant cost and reduce field development and delivery time.

The Compliant Splice, along with Deep Down's new articulating umbilical splice kit enabled the King West project to save millions of dollars and months in delivery time by combining the existing BP Nile and BP King spare umbilicals.
